Museum Joins Smithsonian Magazine's Museum Day Live!

Augusta, Maine - On Saturday, September 29, 2012, the Maine State Museum in Augusta will join 1,400 participating museums nationwide in opening its doors free of charge for the eighth annual Museum Day Live! Participants need only visit the Smithsonian's website to download a free ticket for two and present it at the Maine State Museum on September 29. On that day, the museum will be open from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
"Our visitors often compare the quality of our exhibits to the Smithsonian's," states Museum Director Bernard Fishman. "This makes our participation in Museum Day a good fit for the Maine State Museum. Both institutions strive to present objects, specimens, and stories of cultural and natural heritage to enhance the understanding and knowledge of visitors."
Museum Day Live! fulfills Smithsonian Media's mission to partner with organizations nationwide to make cultural education accessible to everyone. Last year's event drew over 350,000 museum-goers across the country and this year's Museum Day Live! is expected to attract close to 400,000 participants.

The Maine State Museum is located at 230 State Street in Augusta, adjacent to the Maine State House.
The Museum is open Tuesday through Friday 9am-5pm, Saturday 10am-4pm, Sunday 1-4 (through November 25th only) closed Monday.  For more information check the museum’s website: www.mainestatemuseum.org
