PRINTING MONOTYPES USING A GELATIN PLATE with Claudia Brahms and Margo Ogden

Hallowell, Maine - On Saturday, October 20 local artists Claudia Brahms and Margo Ogden will teach a printmaking workshop at the Harlow Gallery at 160 Water Street in Hallowell.  The workshop time is from 10 am – 3 pm and the cost is $40 for members of the Kennebec Valley Art Association or $45 for non-members, plus a $15 materials fee.    To register for the workshop  contact the Harlow Gallery at 207.622.3813 or email kvaa@harlowgallery.org.

Participants will learn how to transfer painted images onto paper using a non-toxic household item as a printing press. Gelatin provides an excellent surface for printmaking that is simple and provides for experimentation and unusual effects. This is a great class for art educators, emerging or established artists. Open to all levels of experience, you’ll be printing immediately and discovering the many ways to make beautiful marks on paper. We’ll wind down with a demonstration on how to “pour” a gelatin plate so you can continue from home.

Paper, paints, stencils, and all the tools needed to participate will be provided, but if you have favorite supplies that you want to experiment with please bring them. That could be paper, paints (water soluble), fun items that can make stamps, stencils, sponges, paint brushes, brayers….anything your imagination wants to explore.  Participants should bring a bag lunch and/or snacks.
