CALENDAR OF EVENTS, Camden Public Library, September 27 to October 11

 Thursday, September 27

Susan Stein presents her one-woman play Etty in the Reading Room at the Camden Public Library at 7:00 pm. Etty is a 60-minute, one-woman show based on the diaries and letters of Etty Hillesum, who chronicled life in occupied Amsterdam and the Westerbork concentration camp. The performance is free.

Friday, September 28

Book Sale Under the Tents, Camden Public Library, 9:00 to 5:00. All sales benefit the library’s book fund.


Saturday, September 29

Tuesday, October 2

Opening reception for painter Jerri Finch’s new exhibition, “Balance,” 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. The exhibit of oil paintings, landscapes both real and imagined, will be on display in the Picker Room at the library throughout October.


Thursday, October 4

Nicholas von Hoffman, pundit extraordinaire, will kick off “Red White and Green October” at the Camden Public Library at 7:00 pm. Von Hoffman will reprise his visit to the library in 2008 on the eve of that presidential election. The talk at the library will follow the first presidential debate, “So I’ll have plenty to talk about!” he says.


Saturday, October 6

Genealogy Workshop led by Dr. Carol McCoy, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, at the Camden Public Library. $5 at the door. Call 236-3440 for more information.

“Simply Books” Club at the Camden Public Library, a reading group for adults, all are welcome, 2:00 pm. Simply bring along whatever book you are currently reading and share it with the group.


Tuesday, October 9

The Camden Philosophical Society Reading Group will discuss “The Word of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction” by Walter Benjamin, 4:00 pm at the Camden Public Library, all are welcome.

“Sudden Fiction” writing workshop offered free at the Camden Public Library, 5:30 to 7:30 pm on six Tuesdays beginning October 9. The workshop will be led by writing coach Lee Heffner; call the library at 236-3440 to register, class size is limited.

Camden Public Library presents Kevin Lewis of Maine Community Health Options, on a new type of nonprofit created by the Affordable Health Care Act, consumer-operated and consumer-oriented, to begin coverage in 2014. Part of the library’s “Red White and Green October” series.


Thursday, October 11

Andrew Zolli, PopTech executive direct, will discuss his new book Resilience at 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library, as part of the library’s “Red White and Green October” series.


Saturday, October 13
