Continuing the tradition of encouraging Maine residents and visitors to enjoy the best that Maine has to offer, Maine state parks, under the management of the Division of Parks and Public Lands (PPL), Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, and the LePage Administration, is offering five guided hikes and a guided paddle at some of the most scenic places in Maine.
“For a number of years now, we have been offering these foliage activities at our wonderful state parks, and our park visitors just love them,” said Will Harris, PPL director. “What better way to create memories and enjoy our beautiful state than to hike or paddle on our woods and waters. I hope many families and visitors join us for these popular events.”
Each activity will be led by a PPL forester or a park ranger who will provide talks about the trees, foliage and other natural-history observations. The events offer a variety of activities for different skill levels, according to park officials. Park admission fees apply for the events.

10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, Aroostook State Park, 87 Sate Park Rd., Presque Isle; moderate, 3-mile fall hike up Quaggy Jo Mountain; park admission fee. For more information, call (207) 768-8341.
11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, Mt. Blue State Park, Center Hill parking lot, 299 Center Hill Rd., Weld; short and easy one-hour, half-mile hike along the Center Hill nature trail; easily accessible for all ages; held rain or shine; park admission fee. For more information, call (207) 585-2261.
10 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 30, Androscoggin Riverlands State Park, Center Bridge Rd., Turner; four-hour, 8-mile-round trip river paddle for experienced paddlers showcasing the Turner section of the park, lunch destination is an island near Bradford Brook; held rain or shine unless conditions are treacherous; paddlers must bring their own boats, life vests, gear, water, lunch and snacks. 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, Bradbury Mountain State Park, Route 9, 528 Hallowell Rd., Pownal; moderate, one-hour, 1.3 mile-round trip hike to the top of Bradbury Mountain; park admission fee. For more information, call (207) 688-4712.
1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 14, Camden Hills State Park, Route 1, 280 Belfast Rd., Camden; moderate 2.5-hour, 2.5 mile-round trip hike up Mt. 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, Vaughan Woods State Park, 28 Oldsfield Rd., South Berwick; easy, one-hour, half-mile family walk, suitable for all ages, with focus on trees, ecology and history of the park; park admission fee. For more information, call: (207) 384-5160.
Hike and paddle participants are advised to bring cameras, binoculars, snacks and water and to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the conditions.
