"Broadband access is vital to doing business in today's world. This new network opens the gate to making Maine more competitive in attracting new businesses, expanding current businesses and creating new jobs," said Governor LePage.
The Three Ring Binder or middle mile fiber, gives businesses in the most rural parts of Maine access to fast and reliable high-speed internet service. "With the creation of the Three Ring Binder, Maine is better positioned to attract new companies, new investment and new jobs in areas we could have never imagined possible just ten years ago," said Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) Commissioner, George Gervais.
Commissioner Gervais spoke about the economic benefits of broadband expansion during a completion ceremony for the Three Ring Binder Project held this morning at the Oxford Data Center in Brunswick.
Access to broadband gives entrepreneurs and Maine small business owners the opportunity to compete alongside corporations in larger, more populated areas. According to the Internet Innovation Alliance, new businesses can save up to $16,000 per year in operating costs by using online bookkeeping, websites, videoconferencing, mail and other online services.
As Governor LePage has said, the goal is for ALL Maine businesses to have ALL the tools they need to expand, compete and create jobs in Maine. The LePage administration, particularly DECD is committed to making it easier to do business in our state.
