One Night Only - Friday, October 5 at 8pm: MARINA ABRAMOVIC The Artist is Present
Co-Presented by The Farnsworth Art Museum and the Strand Theatre as a First Friday Film. Marina Abramović has been redefining what art is for nearly forty years.  Using her own body as a vehicle, pushing herself beyond her physical and mental limits––and at times risking her life in the process––she creates performances that challenge, shock, and move us. Elevating traditional documentary techniques with an artistic gloss befitting its subject, this piece is by no means a typical "art film." With total access granted by Abramović and The Museum of Modern Art, the work is instead a mesmerizing cinematic journey inside the world of radical performance, and an intimate portrait of an astonishingly magnetic, endlessly intriguing woman who draws no distinction between life and art. Not rated (USA 2012). Tickets $8.50/ $7.50 for Farnsworth members.

One Night Only - Wednesday, October 18 at 7pm: BETTING THE FARM
Join filmmakers Cecily Pingree and Jason Mann for a special documentary film event at the Strand. In February 2009, H.P. Hood, one of the largest dairy companies in America, announces that it will not renew the contracts of eight organic dairy farmers in rural Maine. With no other dairy companies willing to send a milk truck to northern or eastern Maine, the farmers are left with two choices: quit farming altogether or find a new way to do business. Farmers Vaughn Chase, Richard Lary, and Aaron Bell--along with the other farmers dropped by Hood--band together to launch a new, entirely local milk company, Maine's Own Organic Milk Co., or MOO Milk. Faced with slow sales and mounting bills, can the farmers hang together long enough for the gamble to pay off? Or will they be left worse off than before? (USA 2012). Tickets $8.50/ $7.50.

One Night Only - Thursday, October 25 at 7pm: HALLOWEEN
It is one of the greatest horror movies of all time. The original poster warned it was “The Night He Came Home”. Roger Ebert compares it to Psycho. October 25, Halloween returns to the big screen. Michael Myers has spent the last 15 years locked away inside a sanitarium under the care of child psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis. On October 30, 1978, Myers escapes and makes his way back home to the quiet, leaf strewn streets of Haddonfield, turning a night of tricks and treats into something much more sinister for three young women. Dr. Loomis is their only hope, but will he find his shadow-dwelling patient in time? A special bonus feature, the 10-minute short You Can’t Kill The Bogeyman: 35 Years of Halloween written by Fangoria’s Justin Beahm, explores the movie’s impact on the horror genre. Rated R (USA 1978). Tickets $8.50/ $7.50.
