Second Presentation for the Authors & Artists Series

Bjorn Runquist will be presenting at 7pm on July 18th
at the Thomaston Academy Building.

Thomaston, Maine - Björn Runquist will be speaking about his work at the Thomaston Public Library.

Runquist was born in Stockholm, Sweden, grew up in New York and spent his high school years in France before returning to the U.S. for college.  Upon completion of college he moved to London, England. After four years in London and receiving a Master's degree from Kings College, University, of  London, he returned to the U.S. and makes his home in Connecticut and, for the last 31 years, in Clark Island, Me.

He has work in the permanent collection of the Farnsworth Museum and has exhibited widely in galleries on the East Coast from Florida to Maine, including the Caldbeck in Rockland, the Connecticut Biennial at the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, The Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport, and the Allan Stone Gallery in New York.  He is in many private and corporate collections and has a number of paintings in the State Department’s Arts in Embassies program which places art in U.S. Embassies around the world.

He is currently represented by Gleason Fine Arts in Boothbay, ME, Landing Gallery in Rockland, ME. Morrison Gallery in Kent, CT and Horton Hayes in Charleston, SC.  He was featured in Maine Home & Design in April 2010 and listed as one of Maine’s 60 artists “to collect now, while you can”.  He was also featured again in Maine Home & Design in the August 2010 issue.

Assistant Librarian at Thomaston, Joanna Hynd, says, “I am looking forward to meeting this local treasure!” The Authors & Artists series is funded by a Rudman Grant and the Friends of the Thomaston Public Library non-profit group. There will be four more speakers presenting on Wednesdays in July and August at 7pm. Presenting the week following are artists Margie & Bob Moskowitz.

The presentation will take place in the Thomaston Academy Building on 60 Main St. in Thomaston in room 204. Public Parking is located behind the Academy. This event is free and open to the public. Donations encouraged!
