Cordis brings contemporary chamber music to Ellsworth

Members of Cordis
Ellsworth, Maine - The Grand presents the contemporary quartet Cordis on Wednesday, July 25th at 7:30 pm. Funded in part by the New England States Touring program of the New England Foundation for the Arts, Cordis musicians will hold a workshop for musicians of all levels on the 25th preceding the concert, from 4-5:30pm.

After selling out in Stonington last summer, Cordis returns to offer musicians an opportunity to engage in creating new music with classical instruments. The musicians of Cordis redefine contemporary chamber music by fusing an original combination of custom-made and traditional ethnic instruments to create their signature sound. The ensemble (consisting of cello [Jeremy Harman], concert cimbalom [Richard Grimes], piano [Brian O'Neill] and percussion [Andrew Beall]  as well as one-of-a-kind creations such as the electric mbira, melodica, and the world's longest playing cylinder-driven music box) takes time whenever possible to conduct master classes as well as more informal programs for students - musicians and non-musicians alike, while concurrently developing new concert programs for audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

This group of inimitable musicians will be offering a 90-minute workshop on The Grand stage on Wednesday, July 25th @ 4:00 pm, preceding the evening’s performance. Pre-registration is required, with an indication of level of musicianship. Admission to the workshop is $15; an additional $5 will allow workshop participants a ticket to the performance.  Tickets to the performance are $20.

So, bring a friend and share the experience of the quartet that NewMusicBox.com raved has a "unique perspective on 21st century chamber music," as Cordis performs on Wednesday, July 25th at 7:30 pm with a workshop open to musicians of all levels before the performance from 4-5:30pm!
