Husson Women's Lacrosse Falls Short to Southern Maine

BANGOR, Maine- Husson University women's lacrosse, dropped the match, 18-5, to the University of Southern Maine Huskies at Boucher Field on Monday night.

1st Half: The Huskies broke ahead in the first 15 seconds of the match after Megan Violette whipped in a shot off a pass by Alex Farley. Doubling their score (2-0) barely a minute later, Colleen Fleming capitalized after a free position attempt, but Husson didn't wait long to respond. Amanda Deshaies won the draw control off the Husky goal and sprinted down the field, passing it off to Jordyn Labrie who assisted the Eagles first goal of the game, scored by Cali Newton.

After a pair of free position attempts by Paige Daigle and Amanda Deshaies, with less than ten minutes left to play in the half, Husson cut the score deficit in half, 8-4. Once again separating themselves from the Eagles, Southern Maine's Aliza Jordan tossed in her third and fourth goals of the night. Then in the final two minutes, Husky's Ruth Nadeau scored her first goal of the season to close out the half with an 11-4 lead.

2nd Half: Southern Maine's Allison Irish was on a roll opening up the second half, notching a hat trick after putting away back-to-back shots over the course of five minutes. • Newton picked up four ground balls and added on a goal.
• Daigle, Deshaies, and Mont all contributed a goal apiece while Mont also earned a helper.
• Labrie dished out one assist.
• Goaltender, Mallory Burchill turned away six shots.

Leaders- Southern Maine

• Jordan threw in an impressive five goals and three assists.
• Irish tossed in four goals.
• Farley earned three goals and an assist.
• C. Fleming and Violette each contributed a pair of goals while C. Fleming also dished out a trio of assists.
• In net, Mariah Vaillancourt recorded 6 saves.

Team Stats

The two teams split the draw controls evenly with 12 wins apiece, while Southern Maine barely edged out Husson in ground balls, 26-23, and caused turnovers, 12-10.
