Husson Softball Extends Winning Streaking to Nine with Sweep of Owls, 9-1, 8-2

BANGOR, Maine - Husson University Softball Team (10-7) swept a non-conference doubleheader with the University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls (9-7) in the battle of the birds at Boucher Field on Saturday afternoon.
Game 1: Husson 9, University of Maine-Presque Isle 1 in six innings
How it Happened:
The Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning as Olivia Smith (Calais, Maine) lined an RBI-single that brought home Bri Brochu (Pittston, Maine). Kylie Kennedy (Hermon, Maine) finished the scoring in the first with a 2-run RBI-single that forced Smith and Madelyn Fowler (East Barre, Vt.) across the plate.
In the second inning, Sara Packard recorded a sacrifice bunt that scored Hailey Davenport (Chicago, Ill.) and made it 3-1 Eagles.
Eagles put up three more runs in the fourth inning as it started off with a Fowler sacrifice fly to right field to score Brianna Bires. Smith singled to second base to score Brochu. Taylor Aunchman (Panton, Vt.) would finished the scoring in the inning with a single to right field to score Smith and make it  6-1.
The Eagles added two runs in the sixth inning in thanks to a Morgan Coleman (Acton, Maine) 2-run RBI single to left field. Casey Heath (Bridgeton, Maine) and Chloe Gorey (Scarborough, Maine) scored the runs to make it 8-1. Kes Lavoie (Bangor, Maine) scored on an error to make it 9-1 and end the game.

  • Coleman record three hits and two RBI.
  • Smith finished with three hits, two runs, and a RBI.
  • Kennedy added two RBI and a hit.
Pitchers: Husson
  • Jen Jones (Acton, Maine) pitched six innings and allowed one run on two hits while walking one and striking out three to pick up the win inside the circle.
Batters: University of Maine at Presque Isle
  • Packard finished with a RBI.
  • Marissa Reagle (Seattle, Wash.) and Melanee Terry (Moreno Valley, Calif.) each recorded a hit.
Pitchers: University of Maine at Presque Isle
  • Packard pitched five innings and allowed six runs while striking out four and walking two.
  • Brookelynn Garcia (Torrance, Calif.) pitched 0.2 innings and allowed three runs on five hits.
Game 2: Husson 8, University of Maine at Presque Isle 2
How it Happened:
Eagles started off the scoring again in the first inning thanks to an RBI by Fowler that scored Gorey to make it 1-0 Eagles.
The Owls tied the game in the second inning as Madison Exferd (Payette, Ind.) scored on a wild pitch.
The Owls took their first lead of the doubleheader when Davenport scored on a fielding error to make it 2-1 Owls. Jackie Peers (Limestone, Maine) credited with the RBI.
Eagles took the lead in the 4th inning as Fowler led off the inning with a single to left field and advanced to second on fielding miniscule by the Owl left fielder. Smith drove in Fowler with a RBI double to left center tying the game at two. Coleman followed that up with a RBI single plating Smith with the go-ahead run. A RBI triple by Shelby Burge (Appomattox, Vt.) and a RBI single by Kendra Wilson extended the Eagle to lead to 5-2.
Back-to-back RBI extra base hits by Smith (Double) and Coleman, a 2-run shot off the Boucher Field press box's Boucher Suite window and Smith would retire the Owls in order in the top of seventh for the 8-2 victory.    .

  • Coleman finished with 3-RBI, two hits, and two runs scored including a 2-run homerun.
  • Fowler recorded three hits, two runs, and a RBI.
  • Smith added two hits, two runs, and two runs scored.
Pitchers: Husson
  • Aunchman pitched three innings and allowed two runs on two hits while walking two and striking out two.
  • Smith pitched four innings and allowed a hit and struck out two to pick the her third win on the season.
Batters: University of Maine at Presque Isle
  • Peers recorded a RBI.
  • Exferd, Melanee Terry and Delanie Strout each had a hit.
Pitchers: University of Maine at Presque Isle
  • Packard pitched three innings and allowed three runs on four hits.
  • Garcia pitched three innings and allowed three runs on four hits.
