HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bobcats scored four goals in the opening five minutes and carried an 11-2 advantage into intermission. Bates kicked off the second stanza with two goals in the opening seven minutes to secure a 13-2 cushion before SJC senior Elyse Caiazzo (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) netted her second goal of the game, but the visitors closed out the contest with four consecutive goals, including a pair from freshman Margaret Smith (Wilton, Conn.), to account for the 17-3 final score.
THE KEEPERS:
Saint Joseph's sophomore Kaylin Mansir (West Gardiner, Maine) made seven saves in the setback while Bates junior netminder Eliza Statile (Ipswich, Mass.) turned away nine shots in the victory.
TEAM STATS:
Bates held advantages in shots (30-13) and ground balls (21-13) while Saint Joseph's posted a 12-10 edge in draw controls on the evening.
LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
Caiazzo scored two goals with two ground balls and three draw controls
Junior Kara Kelly (York, Maine) netted her 17th goal of the season
Juniors Brittney Arsenault (Westbrook, Maine) and Kayla Kelly (York, Maine) turned in four draw controls apiece
LEADERS – BATES:
Junior Katie Allard (Ridgewood, N.J.) scored four goals with three assists
Senior Annie Duke (Englewood, Colo.) potted three goals with three ground balls
Senior Camille Belletete (Jaffrey, N.H.) scored three goals with a pair of draw controls
Smith tacked on two goals and an assist
Sophomore Caroline Kerrigan (Falls Church, Va.) picked up three draw controls
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 0-4 in the history of the series with Bates College.
