Bar Harbor Detour Planned

Bar Harbor, Maine - MaineDOT and its contractors will close the section of Eden Street in Bar Harbor between West Street and Mt. Desert St. from Saturday, April 14th through Sunday, April 22nd. Traffic will be detoured to adjacent streets during the closure. Utilities construction will be happening on that portion of Eden Street, making the closure necessary.

Signs and message boards will be placed to assist drivers and clearly identify the detour route. MaineDOT is encouraging drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time to pass through the area. Access to residences and businesses will be maintained, with passage for local traffic to Bowles and Michigan Streets and Eden Street.

Southbound traffic will be detoured onto West Street to Main Street and onto Route 3. Northbound traffic will continue on Main Street to West Street. Drivers should expect delays, and be prepared to stop and proceed slowly through the detour route. MaineDOT reminds everyone to please drive safely.

The utilities work being done on Eden Street is in preparation for the reconstruction of the roadway this summer. It is part of the Reconstruction of Route 3 that began last year and is scheduled to be completed by spring 2019.

MaineDOT invites Bar Harbor area residents, visitors and drivers to stay informed about the project by visiting mainedot.gov and by signing up for email alerts.
