Thomas Women's Lacrosse Shuts Out Maine Maritime for First Win of the Season

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Junior Sophia LaVallee (Pawling, N.Y. / Pawling) scored four goals as Thomas College picked up its first win of the season with a 12-0 victory over Maine Maritime Academy in North Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action at Smith Field on Wednesday.

Sophomore Samantha Greenlaw (Windham, Maine / Windham) kicked off the scoring with an unassisted goal just 56 second in. Junior Lindsey Allen (Jay, Maine / Spruce Mountain) made it 2-0 with 20:49 to play in the half off an assist from senior Crystal Leavitt (Phippsburg, Maine / Morse).
LaVallee converted a free-position shot with 13:45 left in the first half to extend the lead to three and Greenlaw and senior Erin Nelligan (Walpole, Mass. / Walpole) tallied goals 30 seconds apart as the clock ticked under the 9:00 mark. LaVallee scored her second goal with 4:12 to play, sending the Terriers into the halftime break with a 6-0 lead.

In the second half, Nelligan made it 8-0 in the first 10 minutes with back-to-back goals less than three
goals minutes apart. Greenlaw assisted on both. A short time later, LaVallee tallied a pair of goals separated by just 1:18. The first was unassisted, while the second came on a free-position shot.

Sophomore Hailey Mullen (South Portland, Maine / South Portland) closed out the scoring with two goals - a free-position goal at the 11:12 mark and an unassisted tally with 3:15 to play.

Nelligan finished with three goals, four draw controls, two ground balls and one caused turnover. Greenlaw added two goals, two assists and game-highs with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. In addition, Mullen had two goals and two caused turnovers.

Sierra James finished with four shots, including a pair on goal, to lead the Mariners (0-6, 0-2 NAC). Julia Miller caused a team-high three turnovers, while Christina Wilson led the team with four ground balls.

Senior Brittany Fox (Lovell, Maine / Freyburg Academy) grabbed the win in net after making one save with one ground ball and one caused turnover during the first half. Sophomore Tori Grey (Portland, Maine / Deering) played the entire second half, recording four saves.

Christina Wilson took the loss for Maine Maritime, recording eight saves and four ground balls.
The Terriers held a 31-8 advantage in in shots and won nine of 14 draw controls.

Thomas continues North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday with a 4:30 p.m. matchup with New England College at Smith Field.
