Colby Women’s tennis beats Bates for first time since 2010-11

Lydia Venditti won in three sets at the top singles spot in a 6-3 win over Bates. She trailed 3-0 in the third set before fighting back for the victory.
WATERVILLE, Maine — Lydia Venditti and Gabriela Venditti both won in three sets in singles and combined for the first doubles victory to give the Colby College women’s tennis team a 6-3 win over Bates College in NESCAC play Tuesday.

The Mules, who improve to 8-2 overall and 1-1 in league play, had last beaten the Bobcats by a 5-4 score in the 2010-11 season. Bates dropped to 3-8 overall and 0-2 in the league.
 
Lydia Venditti lost the first set before winning 6-3, 6-4 in the final two sets at first singles. She trailed 3-0 in the third set before fighting back for the win. Meanwhile, Gabriela Venditti clinched the fifth point of the match with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win at second singles. The sisters had an easier time in doubles, winning 8-1.
 
Colby senior captain Holly Bogo was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at fourth singles, while Jamie Pine took a 7-5, 6-1 win at the fifth position. Colby’s other win came from Maddie Lupone and Katie Ryan with an 8-1 score at third doubles.
 
Bates’ Bella Stone went three sets to win at third singles, taking 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 scores. Olivia Voccola was a straight set winner at the sixth spot. Katie Rosenthal and Maisie Silverman took an 8-5 win for the Bobcats at second doubles.
