BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's lacrosse team fell to
Colby College the number eight team in the country on Tuesday night in
non-conference action at Boucher Field. The Mules won the game 15-1.
Husson (1-4) lost their second-straight game on the season while
Colby (5-1) picks up their fifth consecutive victory over the Eagles and
leads the all-time series 5-0.
Thirty-three seconds into the game Claire Caputi found Sasha Fritts
for the first goal of the game as
the Mules lead 1-0. The Mules extend
their lead to 10-0 going into intermission with goals from Fritts, three
from McGara DeWan, two from Dana Swaffield, Caputi, Katherine Burkett
and Chrissy Coveney.
Mackenzie Reimer, Grace McVeya, DeWan, Fritts made the game 14-0 with 14:35 remaining in the game before Amanda Deshaies put the Eagles on the board with their lone goal of game at the 9:15 mark. A late goal by Grace McVey made the game 15-1.
Lauren Coughlin led the Eagles with three caused turnovers while Kaitlin Dolloff made 11 saves in the net and scooped up a team-high three groundballs.
For the Mules, DeWan netted four goals on eight shots with four
groundballs and three draw controls while Fritts tallied three goals and
three assists with three groundballs and one caused turnover.
McVey
added two goals with two assists and five draw controls. Swaffield
chipped in with a pair of goals and assist with two groundballs and a
draw control. Caputi, Coveney, Reimer, Burkett each registered a goal
while Caputi added two assists and Burkett added an assist. Goalie Sarah
Evans made one save to pick up the win in the net for the Mules.
Colby held the advantage in shots (29-2), draw controls (17-1) and
ground balls (21-9) and was successful on two of three clear attempts on
the night Husson cleared successfully in four of the nine attempts in
the setback.
Both teams return action on Saturday, April 2nd as Husson travels to Johnson State for a 4:00 p.m. North Atlantic Conference game while Colby travels to Wesleyan for a 12:00 p.m. NESCAC game.
