BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University baseball team drops a
non-conference game to Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Thursday
afternoon at Harold Alfond Diamond at Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex.
The Monks won the game by a score of 5-2.
Husson (6-7) lose their second straight game while Saint Joseph's
(7-7) ends a three game losing streak to the Eagles and approves to
66-50 all-time versus Husson.
The Eagles jump out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom first when Andrew Curran scored on a JT
Whitten single to left center and Mike Wong was plated by a RBI single through the left side by Ryan Rebar.
A sacrifice fly to left field in the top of third by Joey Murphy drove in Jared Gagne with the Monks first run of game.
The Monks completed their rally in the top of the sixth when Murphy
lead off the inning with an infield single, advanced to third on a
single up the middle by Taylor Reuillard before scoring on Nic Lops
single through the left side tying the game at two. Later in the inning
Reuillard gave the Monks the lead when he scored off a sacrifice fly to
right field by Brett Barati.
Saint Joseph's added two runs in the seventh off back-to-back hits by Murphy and Reuillard making the game 5-2.
Curran went 3-for-5 with a run and Whitten, Wong and Sam Huston each had two hits for the Eagles. Huston added a double to left field in the fourth. Brandon Reilly (2-1) took the lost after allowing five earned runs off nine hits with a walk and one punch out over 6.2 innings. Ryan Allender and Ben Holmes pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief with Allender allowing just a hit.
Reuillard was 3-for-4 with a run and a RBI, Murphy was 2-for-4 with
two runs and two RBI while Barbati had two doubles in three at bats and a
RBI for the Monks. Lops' two singles and Gagne's double accounted for
the three other St. Joseph's hits in the victory. Josh Partridge (2-0)
pitched a sold 7.0 innings allowing eight hits, two earned runs with 11
whiffs to pick up his second win on the season. Corey McNamara (2)
pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the save.
The Eagles are back in action on Saturday, April 2 when they host Thomas College for a North Atlantic Conference
doubleheader at Harold Alfond Diamond at Dr. John W. Winkin Sports
Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Monks host Roger
Williams on Sunday, April 3 for a non-conference game at Larry Mahaney
Diamond. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
