Colby Women’s lacrosse coasts to win over Husson

BANGOR, Maine — The eighth-ranked Colby College women’s lacrosse team was able to coast to a victory for the first time this season in Tuesday’s 15-1 win at Husson University.

The Mules have won three straight games heading into Saturday’s noon road contest at Wesleyan University. Wesleyan is coached by former Colby assistant coach Kim Williams.
 
McGara Dewan scored her first collegiate goal and finished with four on the night for Colby (5-1 overall). Sasha Fritts had a team-best six points on three goals and three assists. Grace McVey added two goals and two assists, Dana Swaffield finished with two goals and one assist, and Claire Caputi had one goal and two assists.
 
Colby senior Mackenzie Reimer had her first collegiate goal and had two draw controls. Kate Burkett had the first goal of her collegiate career and added an assist, while Chrissy Coveney had the other score.
 
The Mules kept Husson from going over midfield for the opening 10 minutes of the game. Colby led 3-0 after just 1:10 of play and took a 10-0 margin into halftime.
 
Fritts scored the opening two goals of the game and Dewan had three first-half scores. Dewan finished a big day with four ground balls, three draw controls, and one caused turnover.
 
Amanda Deshaies scored with 9:15 left in the second half for Husson’s goal.
 
The Mules had a 29-2 shot advantage and a 17-1 margin in draw controls.
 
Lexie Perticone tied Dewan with a team-high four ground balls, while McVey led all players with five draw controls. Katherine King added three draw controls and one caused turnover. Caputi had two draw controls and two ground balls to go with her three points.
 
Sarah Evans played in goal for Colby and had one save.
