Camden Public Library Events March 24 through April 7

Saturday, March 26

“Simply Books” Club, 2:00 pm at the Camden Public Library, all are welcome. Simply bring along whatever book you’re currently reading and share it with the group!


Tuesday, March 29

The students of Interact Club will give a slide talk on their recent trip to Central America, 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. Interact is a division of Rotary for students ages 12 to 18 who are interested in addressing community needs through hands-on service. The Camden Interact group traveled to Guatemala to assist Safe Passage, an organization that helps at-risk families in an impoverished neighborhood in Guatemala City.


Thursday, March 31

Tim Seymour will present a slide talk on the John Muir Trail, the “premier hiking trail in the United States,” 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. The trail starts in America’s treasure, Yosemite National Park, and continues 211 miles through the Ansel Adams Wilderness.


Sunday, April 3

Poetry of the Sea with Gordon Bok and Carol Rohl, 2:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. In celebration of Maritime Month at the Camden Public Library, Gordon Bok and Carol Rohl will present selections of maritime poetry, stories, and music. In celebration of being Poetry Month, Carol will include poetry inspired by her recovery from a stroke in 2004.


Tuesday, April 5

Author Padma Venkatraman will speak at the Camden Public Library at 4:00 pm about the status of women in India and throughout history. Venkatraman was born in Chennai, India, and is now an award-winning American author living in Rhode Island. She will also briefly address paradoxes associated with being a woman in India, discuss her experience growing up in that culture, and touch on her family's history, which is fictionalized in her award-winning debut novel, “Climbing the Stairs.”

Gallery talk on “The Allure of the Lighthouse” in the Picker Room of the Camden Public Library, to accompany the exhibit of vintage B&W photographs from the Penobscot Marine Museum. Captains Bob Pratt and Paul Dilger will give an illustrated talk on the lighthouses as part of the Library’s Maritime Month theme.


Wednesday, April 6

“Exotic Jewish Communities” Coastal Senior College class begins at the Camden Public Library, led by instructor Steven Shaw. The class will continue for eight Wednesdays, 12 noon to 2:30 pm, April 6 to June 1. To register contact Coastal Senior College at 800 286 1594.


Thursday, April 7

Camden Library Coffeehouse features Meteora, 7:00 pm. Meteora is a trio of Will Brown of Lincolnville and Jim Loney and Kat Logan of Friendship, who perform a repertoire that includes originals plus new arrangements of folk, Indie, world folk, blues, traditional songs and dance tunes, “and some pop songs from your parent’s record collection.”
