Forty juried artists will be accepted to participate in this year’s art festival. Artists from all over the United States apply to be included in Castine’s festival. Plein Air artists paint what they see outdoors in the atmospheric conditions that exist, as opposed to working in a studio.
Activities will commence with artist registration on the morning of Thursday, July 21st beginning at 7:30am at the Castine Town Common on Court Street. Over the course of the three-day festival, the artists will paint at various locations of their choosing within the Town of Castine. The public will have the opportunity to observe and visit these artists as they create their interpretations of Castine’s many forts, harbor, lighthouse, federal architecture, and other remarkable vistas.
The event will conclude with judging and an exhibition followed by a sale of the original art created over the three-day festival. The public is cordially invited to attend the sale and reception, hosted by the Castine Arts Association, beginning at 4PM on Saturday, July 23rd at the Maine Maritime Academy’s Harborview Room. All art created during the festival will be on display and available for purchase. Admission for the three-day event, including the sale and reception, is free to the public.
Artists interested in participating in the festival can find an Artists Prospectus, and instructions for applying at http://www.castinearts.org/plein-air-festival/.
The Castine Arts Association is a non-profit, community-based volunteer group organized for the purpose of promoting awareness and appreciation of visual, literary and performing arts through sponsorship of public programs and events.
