Owls Head Conservation Commission to Host Talk on Reducing Your Lawn and Increasing Pollinators

Cindy Wright of Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District will share a simple approach to establishing meadows on Thursday, November 12

ROCKPORT, Maine – The Owls Head Conservation Commission will host a presentation titled “Reducing Your Lawn, Increasing Your Pollinators” on Thursday, November 12, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Owls Head

Community Center. Cindy Wright of Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District will be the featured speaker.

Shrinking your lawn and replacing a section with native plants is a rewarding project that benefits both you and the environment – and it truly doesn’t have to be complicated or difficult. Now is the perfect time to get started on a meadow! Cindy will explain the K.I.S.S. approach to meadow-making for anyone interested in better connecting with nature and contributing to environmental conservation. Attendees are encouraged to bring their questions.

The Conservation Landscape Certification program will also be highlighted. Developed by Knox-Lincoln SWCD in partnership with Waldo County SWCD, this free program helps landowners implement conservation practices in a systematic way, with guidance and one-on-one help on their property. Participants measure their progress through five core criteria: providing wildlife habitat, practicing soil and water conservation, controlling invasive species, planning and planting for ecosystem support, and implementing integrated pest management practices. Landowners complete a checklist, and district staff then visit the property to review it with them. Those who certify receive a certificate and a sign for their property and are recognized as Certified Conservationists.

No registration is required for this free event. FMI: https://www.knox-lincoln.org/events-workshops/owls-head-conservation-commission or for more information, contact Knox-Lincoln SWCD office at 596-2040, cindy@knox-lincoln.org.
