Rockport, Maine - Join Georges River Land Trust with hosts Keith and Mary Collins for a tour of their barn, the first project of BrightBuilt, an opensource collaboration of green building professionals.  Keith will lead a tour of the barn on September 22 at 10 am, and explain the philosophy behind its construction, the design/building process, the materials used, and the energy and space-use benefits it provides.

“It started as a shed for my tractor and tools and grew from there,” Keith says. “The goal was to have no carbon footprint in a building that mixed economy, durability and functionality. It is super-insulated and uses solar to heat water and produce electricity.”

BrightBuilt Barn is an internationally acclaimed, triple net-zero, LEED Platinum Certified structure. Dr. Collins is the inspiration behind the BrightBuilt Barn Collaborative and is interested in organizing and contributing to projects that advance green building sciences.

Enjoy seeing this innovative project in its beautiful setting. Space is limited to 20 persons, so please call Georges River Land Trust at 594-5166 to register and receive directions. This event is part of the Land Trust’s Walks & Talks series, events designed to introduce the community to the resources available to them in the St. George River watershed. Upcominghighlights include a hike on the Canal Path section of the Georges HighlandPath on October 6th, and a talk about the resurgence of the wild turkey in Maine on November 8th.
