Old Fort Western and the Koussinoc Chapter DAR present

A 1787 Flag Ceremony to Celebrate the 225th Anniversary of the United States Constitution

Augusta, Maine - Old Fort Western and the Koussinoc Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution invite the public to the official raising of the 1787 Constitution Flag over the Fort on Saturday, September 15 at 1:15 pm. The public is invited to join the historic festivities from 1-4 pm, which will include a reading of the original Document by invited dignitaries, beginning with an audience-recitation of the Preamble.

Bonnie Wilder, The Constitution Week Chair for the State of Maine DAR, will also present an interactive program, “Meet the 1787 Framers of the Constitution.”  This presentation, with props and role-playing, is an engaging way for children of all ages to learn about what James Madison and other Delegates experienced in the long, hot summer 225 years ago in Philadelphia.

A reading of the 2012 Governor’s Proclamation for the 225th Anniversary will accompany the raising of this unique commemorative American flag, the only one in the State of Maine. The National Society of the DAR has distributed one flag to each state in the Union, to be flown near the state capital during the national celebration of Constitution Week, held September 17-23.

Old Fort Western costumed interpreters will be available to give tours of the 1754 Historic Landmark, fort, store and house.

Admission is free.  Donations to benefit Old Fort Western’s educational programming are always welcome.  For more information please visit our website at www.oldfortwestern.org for more information or become a fan on Face Book to stay connected and learn more.  Call our office at 626-2385 during normal business hours for more information.
