Mary Day Turns 50

The first schooner built for Maine windjammer cruises, Mary Day celebrated her 50th birthday this weekend.  Launched in 1962, the 90' Mary Day was the first windjammer to be built specifically  for the windjammer trade with comfort, safety, and performance in mind. Carrying on the Maine shipbuilding tradition, she is the first traditional pure sailing schooner built in Maine since 1930.
This past weekend during the Camden Windjammer Festival she was presented with a golden eagle to to commemorate her 50 years of sailing.
Since 1962 when she was launched she has carried nearly 20,000 guests on the trip of a lifetime along the coast of Maine. Sailing from May to October she is  truly what Maine and Maine living is all about!
The Mary Day is owned and operated by Captains Barry King & Jen Martin.  It is like most of the schooners of the Maine Windjammer Association and family business.
