Bogaerts, Smtih Lead Sea Dogs to 7-4 Win

Sea Dogs Complete Homestand with 5-1 Record

Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs (60-66) used a four run fifth inning to earn a 7-4 win over the New Britain Rock Cats (68-59) Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field before a crowd of 6,062.  Xander Bogaerts was 2-for-4 with two doubles; a pair of RBI's and scored a run.  Portland completes the homestand with a 5-1 record taking their seventh straight series at Hadlock Field and 12th of their last 13.  The win is the teams' 37th at home this season, the most since the 2006 Eastern League Championship season.

The Sea Dogs took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Xander Bogaerts doubled and scored on a Peter Hissey single.

The Twins affiliate tied the game in the top of the third when Aaron Hicks scored on an Oswaldo Arcia sacrifice fly to center.  Rene Tosoni gave the Rock Cats a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth with his third home run of the season.

The two runs were the only two allowed by Portland starter Brandon Workman (2-0) in five innings of work.  Workman (2-0) earned his second Double-A win in as many starts.  He scattered six hits issuing a walk and notched two strikeouts.

Portland mounted a two out rally to score four runs in the fifth.  Jackie Bradley Jr. delivered a RBI double down the right-field line to score Gibson tying the game at two.  With two runners on Marquez Smith hit an opposite field three run homer, his sixth of the year, into the U.S. Cellular Pavilion off Logan Darnell (9-11).

Chris Martin allowed a run in each of the two innings he pitched in relief as the Rock Cats closed the gap to 5-4.

The Sea Dogs added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning when Bogaerts collected his second double of the game, this one over the center fielder's head scoring two runs.  Bogaerts has six multiple hit games in nine Double-A starts.  Nine of his 14 Double-A hits have gone for extra bases; he is now hitting .378 with the Sea Dogs.

Brock Huntzinger pitched the final inning and a third earning his sixth save.

Both teams will travel to New Britain, Connecticut as the Rock Cats will host the Sea Dogs for a three game set.  Drake Britton (4-5, 3.71) will get the start Monday night at 7:05 PM for the Sea Dogs against Rock Cats righty B.J. Hermsen (10-5, 3.09).  The action can be heard live on 95.5/95.9 FM WPEI.  The Sea Dogs will return to Hadlock Field for a four game series against the Binghamton Mets on Thursday, August 23rd.  Tickets are available and can be purchased by calling the Sea Dogs Ticket Office at 207-879-9500 or online at www.seadogs.com.
