2012 INTERNATIONAL FIGURE SKATING SEASON BEGINS TODAY

The 2012 International Skating Union (ISU) Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating (JGP) Series kicks off Aug. 22-26, in Courchevel, France. The event begins Thursday with the ladies and men's short programs. Official practice will be held Wednesday.
Eight athletes will represent the United States at the event in ladies, men's and ice dancing. Icenetwork.com will provide complete event coverage including recaps and photos.
LADIES
Vanessa Lam has medaled in all three of her Junior Grand Prix assignments to date. Last season, she earned gold and bronze at JGP Austria and JGP Australia, respectively. She qualified for the 2011 Junior Grand Prix Final and finished fifth. She was also selected to the 2012 U.S. World Junior Team and competed as a senior at the 2012 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Lam is joined by Ashley Cain, the 2012 U.S. junior silver medalist. She competed on the 2011 JGP circuit.
MEN
Jason Brown, who begins his third international season, is the reigning Junior Grand Prix Final champion and World Junior bronze medalist. He owns three medals in four tries on the JGP circuit. Harrison Choate finished fourth as a junior at the 2012 U.S. Championships. He will appear in his second JGP event after competing in Romania last fall.
ICE DANCING
Both U.S. ice dancing teams will make their international debuts. Lorraine McNamara & Quinn Carpenter most recently won the junior bronze medal at the 2012 U.S. Championships, while Holly Moore & Daniel Klaber are the current U.S. novice championships
Now in its 16th season, the JGP Series consists of seven international events in a cumulative point-scoring format. Each athlete is eligible to score points in two of the seven scheduled events (pairs can compete in two of four designated events).
