Blue Hill Library Art: Two Generations

Blue Hill, Maine - Local artists Jane Proctor and her mother Elva S. Proctor will present an exhibition of recent work in the Blue Hill Public Library’s Howard Room exhibit cases entitled, Two Generations. Jane is a potter, working with “cone ten” (meaning fired at high temperature to make it very strong) stoneware and porcelain clay, and Elva is a painter, working in watercolor and colored pencil.

About her work, Elva, who is 96 years old says she has enjoyed a lifetime of drawing and painting with occasional "time out" to raise her children and work in the health field.  “Art, whether in doing or appreciating has been a wonderful hobby for me. In workshops and classes, I have met many interesting people and made many friends. New materials as well as newly learned techniques are fun to work with.”

Jane says that she makes “functional pottery,” fired in gas reduction kilns.  “I am a member of Mudflat Studio in Somerville Massachusetts. I have taken classes and workshops there, been a member of the tech support staff and now have a studio there. I have also taken workshops at Haystack. My goal is to make sturdy functional pots which in some cases can make you smile.”

Jane and Elva live in Massachusetts and spend their summers in Stonington. The exhibit will be available during library hours subject to the Howard Room meeting schedule.  Those interested in viewing the exhibit are advised to call ahead to ensure the availability of the room.  For more information call the Library at 374-5515.
