Salt Lake City, Utah - U.S. Figure Skating announced today the entries for the 2012 U.S. International Figure Skating Classic, scheduled for Sept. 12-16, in Salt Lake City. The international senior competition features more than 70 athletes representing nearly 20 countries.
Team USA features Gracie Gold, the 2012 U.S. junior champion and 2012 World Junior silver medalist; Agnes Zawadzki, the 2012 U.S. bronze medalist; reigning U.S. bronze medalist Ross Miner; and 2012 U.S. ice dancing pewter medalists Lynn Kriengkrairut & Logan Giulietti-Schmitt .
The international field includes 2012 Canadian champion Amelie Lacoste, seven-time reigning British pairs champions Stacey Kemp and David King and other World-level competitors.
"U.S. Figure Skating is excited to host the inaugural U.S. International Figure Skating Classic, a competition we expect to become an annual occurrence," U.S. Figure Skating Executive Director David Raith said. "This event allows us another opportunity to welcome the international figure skating community to the United States. Salt Lake Figure Skating has always done an exceptional job of hosting U.S. qualifying events and we are confident this will be another outstanding event. We look forward to strong skating and a great kick off to the senior season."
All practice and competitive events will take place at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex, an official practice venue of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.
Celebrating its inaugural year, the U.S. International Figure Skating Classic is an International Skating Union (ISU) points-earning competition. Many athletes competing in Salt Lake City will be kicking off seasons that will include stops at the Grand Prix Series, their country's national championships, the Four Continents and European Championships and the World Championships.
Icenetwork.com will broadcast live and on-demand video coverage to Season Pass subscribers. Results, news, photos, blogs and more will be available to all users.
Day passes and all-event tickets will be available at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex during the week of the event.
In conjunction with the International Figure Skating Classic, U.S. Figure Skating will host the U.S. Novice & Junior Challenge Skate, an invitational for American skaters who have competed nationally at the intermediate, novice and junior levels. The goal of the event is for skaters to experience what an international competition is like. In addition to competing against other top skaters at their levels, athletes will have the opportunity to attend seminars, undergo media training and more.
