Twenty athletes will represent the United States in ladies, men's, pairs and ice dancing. JGP United States is the first of four events to include pairs competition.

LADIES
Courtney Hicks returns to competition in Lake Placid. The 2011 U.S. junior champion underwent surgery last fall to repair a leg injury sustained at 2011 JGP Italy and missed the remainder of the season. Hicks won gold at 2011 JGP Australia. Kiri Bagareturns to JGP competition for the first time since 2010. She owns three JGP medals, including two gold medals from the 2009 season when she qualified for the JGP Final. Like Baga, Angela Wang returns to JGP competition after a season away. She finished fourth in her only other international competition, 2010 JGP Japan.

Schetelich is the 2012 U.S. novice silver medalist, while Howe is the current U.S. novice bronze medalist.

Elliana Pogrebinsky & Ross Gudis will compete internationally for the first time in Lake Placid.

Now in its 16th season, the JGP Series consists of seven international events in a cumulative point-scoring format. Each athlete is eligible to score points in two of the seven scheduled events (pairs can compete in two of four designated events). The top six point-earners in each discipline qualify for the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, Dec. 6-9 in Sochi, Russia.
In addition to the United States, the Junior Grand Prix Series consists of the remaining events:
- JGP Austria: Linz, Austria - Sept. 12-16 (includes pairs)
- JGP Turkey: Istanbul - Sept. 19-23
- JGP Slovenia: Bled, Slovenia - Sept. 26-30
- JGP Croatia: Zagreb, Croatia - Oct. 3-7 (includes pairs)
- JGP Germany: Chemnitz, Germany - Oct. 10-14 (includes pairs)
- JGP Final: Sochi, Russia - Dec. 6-9 (includes pairs)
