TWENTY U.S. ATHLETES TO COMPETE AT 2012 JGP UNITED STATES

The 2012 International Skating Union (ISU) Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating (JGP) Series continues Aug. 29-Sept. 2, in Lake Placid, N.Y. The United States is set to host a JGP event for the first time since 2009. Competition begins Thursday with the men's and pairs short programs. Official practice will be held Wednesday.
Twenty athletes will represent the United States in ladies, men's, pairs and ice dancing. JGP United States is the first of four events to include pairs competition.

LADIES
Courtney Hicks returns to competition in Lake Placid. The 2011 U.S. junior champion underwent surgery last fall to repair a leg injury sustained at 2011 JGP Italy and missed the remainder of the season. Hicks won gold at 2011 JGP Australia. Kiri Bagareturns to JGP competition for the first time since 2010. She owns three JGP medals, including two gold medals from the 2009 season when she qualified for the JGP Final. Like Baga, Angela Wang returns to JGP competition after a season away. She finished fourth in her only other international competition, 2010 JGP Japan.
MEN
Joshua Farris is the reigning World Junior silver medalist and JGP Final bronze medalist. He has competed on the Junior Grand Prix since 2009 and has five medals and two trips to the JGP Final to his credit. Joining Farris are two JGP newcomers, James Schetelich and Spencer Howe. Schetelich is the 2012 U.S. novice silver medalist, while Howe is the current U.S. novice bronze medalist.
PAIRS
Haven Denney & Brandon Frazier are the reigning U.S. junior champions. They competed at JGP events in Latvia and Austria last fall.Olivia Oltmanns & Joshua Santillan also competed last fall in Latvia and Austria. The duo begins its third international season.Madeline Aaron & Max Settlage, the 2011 U.S. novice champions, finished fifth at 2011 JGP Poland.Jessica Pfund & AJ Reiss made their international debut last spring, winning gold at the International Challenge Cup. They finished fifth as juniors at the 2012 U.S. Championships.
ICE DANCING
Alexandra Aldridge & Daniel Eaton qualified for the 2011 JGP Final after placing second and third at events in Austria and Latvia, respectively. They finished the season by winning bronze at the 2012 World Junior Championships after claiming the U.S. junior title.Madeline Heritage & Nathaniel Fast made their international debut last fall in Australia where they placed fifth. Elliana Pogrebinsky & Ross Gudis will compete internationally for the first time in Lake Placid.
Now in its 16th season, the JGP Series consists of seven international events in a cumulative point-scoring format. Each athlete is eligible to score points in two of the seven scheduled events (pairs can compete in two of four designated events). The top six point-earners in each discipline qualify for the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, Dec. 6-9 in Sochi, Russia.
In addition to the United States, the Junior Grand Prix Series consists of the remaining events:
  • JGP Austria: Linz, Austria - Sept. 12-16 (includes pairs)
  • JGP Turkey: Istanbul - Sept. 19-23
  • JGP Slovenia: Bled, Slovenia - Sept. 26-30
  • JGP Croatia: Zagreb, Croatia - Oct. 3-7 (includes pairs)
  • JGP Germany: Chemnitz, Germany - Oct. 10-14 (includes pairs)
  • JGP Final: Sochi, Russia - Dec. 6-9 (includes pairs)
