Jean-Claude Brizard throws ceremonial first pitch at White Sox game

Chicago, Illinois - As part of the planned activities at the Chicago White Sox final Kids Day of the season, Chicago Public Schools (CPS) CEO Jean-Claude Brizard will toss out a ceremonial first pitch before the start of today’s game.  The theme of today’s Kids Day at U.S. Cellular field is “Back to School.”
“Being in school on the first day and every day is critical to a child's success," said CPS CEO Jean-Claude Brizard.  “This school year is an exciting one for our students because each will benefit from the new full school day, which will put them on a path towards success in the classroom.”
Early start schools began on Monday, August 13th and Regular start schools begin on Tuesday, September 4th.  Parents who are uncertain about their child's school start date and start times should visit www.cps.edu/firstday or call (773) 553-3CPS.
“Education is a top priority, because it is a necessary ingredient for success in life,” said White Sox senior director of community relations.  “The White Sox value our relationship with CPS and we encourage all Chicago students to attend school the very first day.  Let’s call it Opening Day for CPS.”
Earlier this summer, White Sox pitcher Jesse Crain recorded a “Back to School” public service announcement, which included key dates and information on the CPS hotline.
