Musician Spotlight: Rising Singer/Songwriter Catie Lee

Musician Spotlight: Rising Singer/Songwriter Catie Lee
Editor: David Mills

Our Musician Spotlight this Friday, Apr. 6th, 2012 is on a very talented singer/songwriter. The singer/songwriter we are highlighting this Friday is on 14 year old Catie Lee. Catie has wonderful vocal and ability to play guitar.

Catie Lee has been singing and playing guitar since she was 9-years-old. She loves to add her own twist to popular cover songs from various genres. Catie picks up natural talent, she also plays drums and the piano on her free time. Catie is now 14-years-old and is enjoying the experience of performing anywhere she can. She is also a strong supporter of animal rights and environmental causes.

We had the great opportunity to interview Catie on her singing/songwriting career recently. Here are her answers to our questions we asked Ms. Lee.

Catie, when did you start singing?
Ever since I was about 3 years old, and i sang christmas carols with tap shoes on! :)

Was it your dream to be a singer?
Always. I've just loved singing my whole life and it makes me happy whenever i hear it.  Its very soothing to me.  I sing all the time...even when I do my homework.

Do your parents support you?
Absolutely. I would be nothing without their help! My mom has always driven me to any performance!

Do you write your own songs?
Yes! I have written so many but i never put them to music, however, i have fully written 2 of them. "because your gone", and "Don't have to cry"  I will have them posted on YouTube as soon as I decide to make them a music video or not...these things take some time.

If so, tell us what goes into writing a great song?
Experience in what your singing about, and usually random bursts of inspiration!  Lots of the stuff about love and dating I don't quite know about yet...but I write about it anyway.  The song "Because Your Gone" was written for a friend who lost her dad and I lost my grandma who I was very close to just 3 weeks before.  That one was definitely  from experience.

Where was your first performance, were you excited?
My first performace was when i was in the 4th grade and I sang "complicated" by Avril Lavigne. (one of my idols) I was so nervous and excited at the same time!  There's no way to describe the feeling!

Where have you been able to  perform?
Everywhere I can! If i could name a few big ones it would be: YouthFest 2010-2012, Battle of the Bands, many talent shows at my school, made it to the 2nd round on the X-Factor, tried out for America's got Talent, and i just had an audition with executives at Disney in NYC! I'm also in the small honor group choir at my school called "Titan Treble".  Ive been in the Virginia Honors Choir, Disctrict Choir, and All-County choir the past few years!

Who inspires you with your singing and songwriting?
Some of my biggest inspirations would be Beyonce, Christina Aguileara, Alecia Keys, and Britney Spears!  My first performance was an Avril Lavigne song and she was also the only concert I have seen.  She's all about "girl power"...very cool.

If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
All around the world! My biggest place would be the Verizon Center or anywhere the big stars have concerts! My great grandma lives in Berlin.  That would be nice.  The people in Germany are very nice!

Along the same line, who would you love to perform with?
I would DIE to perform with Justin Bieber or Christina Aguileara!  Honestly, I'm happy just to be asked to perform with other performers...especially for a good cause.

What are some of your goals for your Music?
If i ever do make it big, I just want to live in the same house with all my same stuff and donate all my earnings to anything that helps animals! I love animals :) My family is also very big into environmental issues.

What do you hope to accomplish with your singing/songwriting?
I want to perform to huge crowds! I want to donate most of my money to things that can't speak up, such as animals and the environment.  There are many things that need to be fought.  Without the environment...we have nothing.

Catie, do you have any advice for those wanting to start a career in singing and songwriting?
If you have a dream, go for it.  There's nothing holding you back but fear itself.  NEVER EVER give up, keep on trying untill it happends! I'm just trying to get started myself...tough road.  For people getting started...keep doing performances at school; this helps a lot with stage fright in the beginning.

Is there anything else you want our readers to know about you, your singing/songwriting?
Well, I love animals.  I donate money to animal shelters and my family donates a lot to environmental and human society causes.   I just did a teen drunk driving PSA.  It should be out soon, and I always have new videos out, so please check out my Youtube channel... "catieleemusic1". CHECK IT OUT :)  I also can be reached on my website..."catielee.com" and I have a fan page.  I welcome any comments and respond as soon as I can to everyone!!!!

We can't wait to see where Catie's career of being a Musician takes her.
