Tejeda hits second homer of the season in loss

Portland, Maine - The Reading Phillies (15-7) defeated the Portland Sea Dogs (7-17) 4-2 Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 5,957 at Hadlock Field. The Phillies won the three game series taking two out of the three games.

Reading starter Tyler Cloyd was outstanding, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Juan Carlos Linares broke-up the no-hitter with a two out single. Cloyd would not factor into the decision despite tossing six shutout innings allowing one hit and three walks, while notching seven strikeouts. He retired the first 11 batters of the game before walking Linares with two outs in the fourth, snapping his streak of 29.2 innings without allowing a walk, dating back to last season.

Portland starter Chris Hernandez was also effective scattering six hits over 5.2 innings allowing one run lowering his ERA to 1.69 on the season. The lone run off Hernandez crossed the plate in the first inning on a Sebastian Valle RBI single.

Oscar Tejeda greeted Reading reliever Tyson Brummett in the seventh inning with a solo home run to center, his second of the year, to tie the game at one.

Michael Spidale broke the one-one tie in the top of the eighth inning with a two run double to right-field off Caleb Clay (1-2) to take a 3-1 lead.

Reading added a run in the ninth on a Tim Kennelly sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 4-1.

The Sea Dogs rallied in the ninth off Reading reliever Justin Friend. Portland would collect four of their seven hits in the ninth inning. Ronald Bermudez scored on a Ryan Dent sacrifice fly to close the gap to 4-2. The Sea Dogs would load the bases with two outs but Friend would get Derrick Gibson to fly out to center to end the threat and preserve the game for the Phillies.

Brummett (1-0) earned the win for Reading allowing one run on two hits in two innings of relief. Friend earned his fifth save of the season.

Notes: Zach Gentile, who was called-up from Single-A Salem earlier in the day, collected his first Double-A hit with a single in the ninth. Jeremy Hazelbaker had his team-high nine game hit streak end with a 0-for-4 performance. Reynaldo Rodriguez had his 16 game on base streak also end.

The Sea Dogs will begin a four game series with the Trenton Thunder (Yankees) at 6:00 PM on Monday. Portland will send righty Billy Buckner (0-2, 4.71) to the mound. Trenton has not yet announced a starter. Tickets are available and can be purchased by calling the Sea Dogs Ticket Office at 207-879-9500 or order online at www.seadogs.com.
