Local Musical Talent in May Fashion Show

Local Musical Talent in May Fashion Show
Editor: David Mills

ROCKLAND, ME - On Sunday, May 6th the Fourth Annual WRFR Fashion Show and Silent Auction will be taking place at the Lincoln Street Center in Rockland.  The show will begin with an Auction Preview at 6pm followed by the runway show at 7pm. This year the show will also feature three musical talents!

Alice Limoges will start the evening playing original pieces during the Auction Preview.  Hailing from Rockport, Maine, Alice Limoges produced her first CD, Not Gonna Fall Asleep Tonight, while still in high school.  The Portland Press Herald called her first record “an impressive record even before her teenage status is considered.” Her songs are inspired by a combination of literature, jazz standards, and personal experiences, all tied together by a solid band, the occasional ukulele, and Limoges’ strong voice.  Alice is currently working on a second CD which she hopes to have finished by the summer.

There will be two short intermissions during the runway show which will feature local talents Tom Albury and Clio Berta.

Tom Albury has been writing and performing music for over 40 years.  While growing up in the Detroit he was exposed to the sounds of Motown at an early age. Then as a teenager, the Beatles and Dylan heavily influenced his evolving style.   His music reveals deep, insightful reflections of his personal life and of his observations of the world. His melodious voice and colorful lyrics have fascinated audiences in the midcoast area for over 30 years.  Always listening for a new sound or style of music, he enjoys playing anything from originals to favorite covers.   Tom performed in the first WRFR Fashion show four years ago and has volunteered as a sound and light technician in the years following. A performance by Tom will always be a work of the heart.

Clio Berta is sixteen years old and a native to midcoast Maine.  She began letting people know she was going to become a rockstar when she was six, and hasn't stopped trying to convince them since. Her interests lie in writing silly songs and serious ones, duetting piano and violin, and the scores for documentary, animation, and fiction films. ArtWORKS, an animation created by youth in the midcoast through Julia's Gallery, was the first movie that Clio created a soundtrack for, premiering at The Strand Theater. Following, Clio has been asked to put music to the preview for the international film festival called Rockland Shorts at The Strand. She continues to write, collaborate occasionally, and perform.

Between musical acts will be the featured Runway Show which includes boutiques and designers all the way from Portland, Damariscotta, and North Haven.  Clothing from the Grasshopper Shop, Heavenly Threads, The Lady’s Room Consignment Boutique, Maces, Orlando Benedict, Revereti, Serendipity, and Smarty Pants will be featured on stage.  Proceeds from the show benefit WRFR, a non-profit, volunteer-run, community radio station.  Tickets are now on sale at participating boutiques and at Rock City Café.  They are only $5 in advance and $8 at the door.  FMI please visit www.wrfr.org or call 701-7134.
