Seafaring Adventure Camps

Seafaring Adventure Camps
Editor: David Mills

BOOTHBAY HARBOR, ME - Ocean Classroom’s Seafaring Adventure Camps are currently accepting middle and high school students with an interest in the maritime world. Seafaring Camp is a one-week co-educational learning adventure for teens aged 13-16, exploring the marine environment of the New England coast. Advanced Seafaring Camp, for teens aged 15-18, takes the experience to the next level on a two-week tall ship voyage across the Gulf of Maine to Nova Scotia and back.

All participants learn to crew a magnificent 19th century-style schooner, standing watch, climbing aloft, and steering with pride before a fresh breeze. They’ll observe whales, seals, and sea birds in their natural habitat, visit historic ports, and absorb maritime culture through songs and stories of the sea. This is an authentically rugged voyage, perfect for young men and women with a passion for the ocean and the desire for a challenge. No sailing experience is necessary for the experience of a lifetime: email agraham@oceanclassroom.org for more information.

The Discovery High School Semester at Sea is a major voyage of discovery and adventure in which the traditions and adventures of maritime life provide a unique context for education while sailing over 4,000 nautical miles from the Caribbean to New England. Fully accredited academics include oceanography, marine biology, maritime history and literature, applied mathematics (navigation), and seamanship, along with leadership, humanitarian service, and cultural immersion.

“Ocean Classroom was one of the greatest experiences of my life and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has the slightest bit of interest in the ocean or anything related to it.”

“I’m sure I could write a five page essay on how this one-week sailing trip has impacted my daughter’s life and the decisions she’s going to make for her future. It was an awesome adventure and an incredible learning experience.”

Our custom programs range from one day to one semester adventures for schools, youth and community organizations and continuing education for teachers.
