Spring Wildflower Walk on Ragged Mountain
Editor: David Mills
CAMDEN, ME - Join Master Botanist Wanda Garland and Coastal Mountains Land Trust on the search for wildflowers on May 3 from 10:00am -12:00pm on Ragged Mountain. This leisurely hike will feature native and non-native plants found on the mountain, with a focus on spring wildflowers.
As an avid naturalist, hiker, and photographer, Wanda’s enthusiasm for the natural world is infectious and inspiring. Wanda has taught botany for over forty years at the high school, college and adult education levels and has participated in several field research courses at Humboldt Field Research Institute.
This event is free and open to the public, but group size is limited to 20 participants, so advance registration is required. Please call the Land Trust at 236-7091 to sign up for this outing and to learn where the group will be meeting. Water and appropriate attire for a “mud season” trail walk are recommended.
This event on Ragged Mountain highlights the Land Trust’s ongoing efforts to conserve Bald and Ragged Mountains for their scenic beauty, wildlife habitats, natural resources, and outdoor recreation opportunities. To date, the Land Trust has protected 1,667 acres on the two mountains, including 738 acres on Ragged.
Since 1986 Coastal Mountains Land Trust has conserved over 9,000 acres to permanently protect the natural and human communities of the western Penobscot Bay region.
