Author Event: Meditation Techniques
Editor: David Mills
BLUE HILL, ME - Natural history writer and poet Marnie Reed Crowell will talk about her recent books, along with her collaborator, photographer and psychologist Ann Flewelling, at the Blue Hill Public Library on Thursday May 3rd at 7:00 PM. The two founded Three Half Press and collaborate on books together.
In the Coast of May--a semi-biographical novel-- Crowell shares her love of the natural world in the tale of a summer on a Maine island and the ways people cope with change.
In Island Meditation, Crowell presents forty-two meditation exercises, using Flewelling's photographs of the natural world of mid-coast Maine. Crowell will share some of the meditation techniques that helped her recover from traumatic brain injury and return to writing, along with insights into how 6 weeks of practice help deal with stress, high blood pressure and other issues. Flewelling will show her accompanying images in a slide show.
About Island Meditation Dr. Charles Zelnick of Island Family Medicine says “There is no doubt that meditation causes immediate changes in the brain which can lead to reversal of the stress changes in the body. Regular meditation has been shown to lower blood pressure, improve coping with stress, help people better tolerate pain, and help people coping with depression and addiction problems. And no study to date has shown any bad effects from meditation.”
There is no charge, and everyone is welcome. For more information, call the Library at 374-5515.
