Quasimodal Chorus in Concert May 3

Quasimodal Chorus in Concert May 3
Editor: David Mills

CAMDEN, ME - The Quasimodal Chorus will perform a spring concert in the Reading Room of the Camden Public Library on Thursday evening, May 3, at 7:00 pm. Admission to the concert will be $10. The Quasimodal Chorus is a long-time favorite of audiences in the Camden area and will perform choral pieces and folk arrangements in small groups as well as the full chorus.

The Quasimodal Chorus  convened in Camden in 1984 to record for Gordon Bok’s “February Tapes.” Jan Harmon invited the group  to join her at the 1987 Rockport Folk Festival at the Rockport Opera House. The Quasis have been meeting in members’ homes weekly ever since. This year they are reviving a tradition of spring concerts at the Camden Library. This year’s concert will feature not only choral compositions by members Gordon Bok, Anne Dodson, Jan Harmon, and Bob Richardson, but also smaller ensembles of the group presenting original as well as traditional  pieces. A capella songs as well as songs accompanied by keyboards, flute, whistles, dulcimer, guitars, banjo, and cello will be included.

The concert will be in the library’s Reading Room. With its high arched ceiling and view overlooking the harbor, the Reading Room is an elegant and also acoustically attractive concert hall.
