George Lee Crosby: New Paintings from Cuba
Editor: David Mills
BLUE HILL, ME - Blue Hill artist George Lee Crosby will exhibit recent artwork in a show, New Paintings of Cuba, in the Blue Hill Public Library’s Britton Gallery during the month of May. The show will consist of oil paintings and sketches from a trip to Cuba this past January as well as trips taken the previous two years. About the show Crosby says that, ”the paintings follow an arc from the far west ( Pinar del Rio) to the capital, Havana, and finally east across the island to Santiago de Cuba and Baracoa in Oriente Province.”
Originally from New York City, Crosby first became interested in art while studying at the University of Michigan. He went on to study art at Cooper Union in Manhattan and then under various artists in Provincetown on Cape Cod. He spent a lot of his younger years traveling the continent and painting, hitchhiking and working various jobs so that he could paint. He lived in Japan for five years where he worked as an illustrator and exhibited his artwork. When he returned he lived in Provincetown and New York and later was exhibiting his work on the Blue Hill Peninsula, among other places, and finally decided to relocate in Blue Hill in 2004. He shows his work in Key West, Florida, Provincetown, New York City and in the local area around Blue Hill.
The show will be available for viewing during Library hours during the month of May. For more information contact the Library at 374-5515.
