The Greater Portland Convention & Visitors Bureau Honors Maine Hospitality and Tourism Professionals at its Annual Meeting.
Portland, Maine — In a meeting of over 200 key professionals from the hospitality and tourism industry, the Greater Portland Convention & Visitors Bureau awarded individuals and organizations across the state for their efforts to grow Maine tourism.
Awards were given this year for a variety of purposes and to a variety of individuals. The Ambassador of the Year award was given to Hillary Cantwell who has been volunteering at the bureau for 5 years. She is recognized for her knowledge of the region and passion for helping visitors discover and enjoy area attractions, shopping and dining.
Member Volunteer of the Year at the Bureau, Rauni Kew from Inn by the Sea, was recognized for her outstanding work in public relations, environmental practices and overall commitment to marketing the region.
The Rose Award in Recognition of Service Excellence was presented to Lisa Kane from The Maine Wildlife Park whose services help over 30 species of injured, orphaned, or human dependent animals.
Bill Bell from the New England Veterinary Medical Association was awarded the Phoenix Award for their efforts in producing the convention with the largest economic impact.
The Casco Bay Award is given to the establishment that helps to promote Maine as a vibrant destination by attracting visitors and meetings to Greater Portland and Casco Bay; Bill Ryan Jr. accepted the award on behalf of the Maine Red Claws who were recognized for providing scholarships to 4th graders helping to put on the 4th of July Stars and Stripes concert in Portland and future development plans for Thompson’s Point.
Lastly, the Lighthouse Award was presented to the business that exemplifies outstanding leadership in promoting Maine as a tourism destination, while enhancing the quality of life for Maine people. This award went to the Maine Camp Experience whose organization represents a community of premier camp owners and directors, dedicated to a quality Maine experience for youth from around the world.
“The hospitality and tourism industry are so integral to Maine’s economic success and development. We are excited to award all of the individuals who work so hard to grow Maine’s tourism industry and do it successfully,” said Barbara Whitten, President of the Greater Portland Convention & Visitors Bureau.
“These winners support our organization on a daily basis and we are so grateful for all of their contributions.”
