Morrison and Boyer capture state titles

Augusta, Maine - Both the Foxcroft Academy boys’ and girls’ outdoor track teams placed eighth out of 31 teams at the 2012 State Class C Track and Field Championship at Cony High School on Saturday. Fern Morrison capped an incredible freshman year by winning the 400 meter dash--posting an even better time (1:01.73) than Emily Panciera ’11 did when she won the state title last year--and finishing as runner up in the 800 meter run. Junior Donnie Boyer became a state champion in the high jump, besting the field with a leap of 5-10, and also placed fourth in the triple jump. Both Morrison and Boyer have qualified to compete at the 67th New England Championship Meet at Thornton Academy on Saturday, June 9.

Zach Smith ’12 had a strong meet, finishing third in the 400 meter dash and sixth in the 200 meter dash, while Cody Levensalor ’13 (8th in the shot put), Ryan Wang ’14 (9th in the 200 meter dash), Louis Lafache ’13 (12th in the shot put), and Chelsie Oldfield ’12 (12th in the 1600 meter run) also posted top-15 finishes for the Ponies.

In relay action, Wang, Colby Bombero, Smith, and Donnie Boyer finished fourth in the 4x400 meter relay, and Alex Stevens, Smith, Bombero, and Wang placed sixth in the 4x100 relay.
