The Maine Lobster Festival Marine Experience Tent 2012

Rockland, Maine - The Marine Experience Tent is a Festival attraction that provides hands-on chances to touch and learn about a wide variety of Marine life.  Maritime activities and demonstrations will continue during the festival.  Who knows what creatures from the deep will show up?  Exhibitors set up interesting displays for all ages. 
   
Ongoing activities planned for this 65th Annual event include Two Touch tanks with various creatures for kids and adults alike to explore; knot tying demonstrations by Captain Chris Muller; Marine Survival Suit demonstrations by the United States Coast Guard.
   The "Lobster Claw Game" designed especially for the Maine Lobster Festival, will include a mobile lobster tank display as well as a children's sea life touch tank, which is part of "Touch Tank For Kids.
    The FMC Marine Colloids amazing assortment of foods and products using the seaweed additive carrigeenan, a locally produced product, is another display (with samples) of interest.
    Chris Oliver from Knight Marine Service will once again be offering Saltwater Fly Tying demonstrations, as well as offering one-on-one instruction that festival goers can sign up for.    
     A very popular feature, "The Dynamic Dead Fish Display" by Jamie Johnson of Jesses Seafood Market always attracts awe and tentative touches by young and old. 
   Station Maine of Rockland is an organization of community members dedicated to offering boating opportunities at no cost to youth of all ages in the mid-coast Maine area.  They will be doing rowing demonstrations as well as recruiting perspective rowers.
We are also please to announce that Brooks Trap Mill of Thomaston will once again be displaying the complete start to finish process of building a lobster trap, and the materials that go into the building.
 Scrimshaw art by Tucker Cambridge will also be demonstrated in the Marine Tent this year, a nautical art performed in the traditional manner should be interesting to see.
 United States Coast Guard Exchange will also be back this year offering clothing and gifts from Rockland, an official "Coast Guard City".
 New this year,
 Friends of Maine Seabird Island- Whose mission is to support Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge in it's effort to conserve, protect, and enhance the rich diversity of coastal habitats, seabirds, and other wildlife.
  The Apprenticeshop-Rockland Community Sailing Program.
The Apprenticeshop has been dedicated to inspiring personal growth through craftsmanship, community and traditions of the sea.  Located on the waterfront in Rockland Maine, the Apprenticeshop offers programing for youth and adults that ranges from 2 hours to 2 years.  Students of all ages come here from around the world to learn traditional boat building skills, sailing and maritime arts. 
  Maine Lobstermens Association will be in the Marine Tent for the 1st time this year!  The Maine Lobstermen's Association was founded in 1954 and is currently the oldest and largest fishing industry association on the east coast. Representing 1,200 members, the MLA works to sustain both the industry and the resource. The MLA strives to be proactive on issues affecting the lobster industry and is active in the management process at the state, regional and federal levels.
 BOOK SIGNINGS AND SPECIAL EVENTS:
Barbara Tommlinson will be entertaining and educating visitors on the "Evolution of Lobsters", Thurs. 12-4pm.
 Thursday August 2  from 10am to 2pm Jeff Bowman will be signing a new Children's book on lobster. Also on Thurs. Kevin Mills will be signing 2 of his books "Breakwater" and "Sons and Daughters of the Ocean" from 12-4pm

On Friday Aug. 3 we will have Brooke Dojny, author of "Dishing Up Maine", "The New England Clam Shack Cookbook", and "Lobster!"-12-4pm
Kevin Mills will once again be signing 2 of his books "Breakwater" and "Sons and Daughters of the Ocean" from 12-4pm
Steven Powell a local author will be signing his book "Patch Scratch"  from 12-6pm
 On Sat. Aug. 4th we will have Darcy Scott signing her book "Matinicus" from 12-4pm
 On Sun. Aug. 5th we will have George Christie signing his comical book with a lobster on the cover called "I'm Just Sayin" from 12-4pm
Steven Powell will also once again be signing his book "Patch Scratching" from 2-6pm. 
 Be sure to visit the Marine Tent; check out the lobster buoys donated by local lobstermen that decorate the outside of the tent.  There is always something of interest for everyone.
