Antique Furniture Identification, Connoisseurship, and Care

Blue Hill, Maine - Blue Hill Public Library will host a talk and slideshow on antique furniture by Joshua Klein of Klein Furniture Restoration in Brooklin on Saturday July 14th at 10:30 AM. The program will focus on identifying style, authenticity, finishes, woods and other aspects of understanding antique furniture. Klein will cover the criteria for valuing furniture, and about when and why appraisals are needed. Finally, he will also cover storage, care, and damage treatments.  Attendees are welcome to bring small pieces for evaluation, time permitting.

Joshua has studied the construction and repair of stringed instruments at the School of Luthiery located in Red Wing, MN, and has built both acoustic and electric guitars. He also attended the National Institute of Wood Finishing, in Rosemount, MN where he studied under Mitch Kohanek, a master wood finisher who has set the standard for so many in the field. At the Institute, he developed the skills to assess wood damage, finish repair and touch up, color matching, refinishing, and antique conservation.

More information about Joshua and his work can be found at http://mainerefinishing.com. The program is free and open to the public.  For more information contact the Library at 374-5515.
