Jenny Wilson Returns to Camden for Summer Concert July 10
The first concert in the summer music series of the Camden Public Library features the return to Camden of Jenny (Menna) Wilson with the Jenny Wilson Jazz Trio. The concert will be in the Amphitheatre on Tuesday evening, July 10, at 7:00 pm; the rain venue will be inside the library, so come enjoy the music rain or shine! The concert is free although donations will be accepted. Wilson attended the Community School in 1973, and says, “I was just amazed at Maine and didn’t want to leave. I lived in Maine until I graduated from USM (music major) and traveled to Switzerland where I lived for 13 years.”
Wilson’s visit to Maine coincides with the release of their first CD as a trio, entitled “what she sang in winter.” The CD features eight original compositions by Wilson, who received the Willie Maiden Award for composition and arranging while a student at UMaine-Augusta. Her original tunes are firmly rooted in jazz with shades of Appalachia coloring the sound of the trio.
The trio is a family, and the communication through music is seen, felt, and heard by the audience as well as the musicians. Jenny (formerly Jenny Menna) was born in Queens, New York and came to Camden, Maine to attend the Sea School (now the Community School) founded by her childhood friend, Dora Lievow. After graduating she went on to study music at the University of Maine and then to Switzerland where she studied piano with Art Lande. Her musical travels have taken her to Germany, Austria, France, and England and she now resides in a musical household in Morgantown, WV. The trio features husband, Nathan Wilson, on bass, and son, Evan Lintz, on drums. Nathan and Evan are also members of Pittsburgh’s notorious Squonk Opera, who attained their infamy last year on television’s America’s Got Talent. The concert tour/vacation in Maine and New Hampshire will be a chance for Jenny to reconnect with her past, to share the beauty of Maine with her family, and to share her music with friends, old and new.
