The Fourth Annual Portland LobsterFest
Portland Maine (RWR) - The fourth Annual Portland LobsterFest, put on by the Falmouth Rotary, is taking place on Saturday, June 30th at the Maine State Pier on Portland's waterfront. The Festival begins at 11:00AM. Fresh, delicious Maine lobster, lobster rolls, Maine corn and watermelon are among the items on the menu. Proceeds benefit the Maine Children's Cancer Program and the Falmouth Rotary charities.
Live music will fill the Pier with The Stream, Maine's premier reggae band, as well as Coal Sack in Crux who is known for their musical diversity. Renown greater Portland DJ Jim Fahey will keep the sounds coming as we light the Pier up with music heard throughout the afternoon.
This year also features the return of The Great Maine Lobster Eating Contest which begins at 1:30PM. This contest is a test of skill and capacity as the competitors must shuck and eat as many lobsters as they can in a ten minute food eating slugfest. Defending champion Tripp Richardson will return to defend his title. Last year, he consumed 10 lobsters in ten minutes. The competition will be even stronger this year.
We are pleased to announce that Maine Senator Olympia Snowe will be one of our guest lobster eating contest judges, along with Mike Reed of Fairpoint Communications. Fairpoint Communications, as they have been all four years of LobsterFest, is our lead sponsor.
Noted Maine magician, Phil Smith of Abracadabra Productions, will dazzle the crowd with his incredible magic. Showtime basketball master and MC of the Maine Red Claws, Jason "White Shadow" Gibbons, will also join us as he amazes the crowd with his basketball wizardry.
Linda Bean's Maine Lobster, Capt'n Eli's Root Beer, a cash bar with ice cold beer (you must have ID) and much, much more will make this a memorable day on Portland's scenic waterfront.
