The English Beat Saves It For Later at The Grand

Ellsworth, Maine - The Grand, in downtown Ellsworth, brings the seminal band of British eighties ska and new wave, The English Beat, on Monday July 9th at 7:30pm.

“Save it for Later”, “Mirror in the Bathroom”, the ska covers of “Tears of a Clown” and “Can’t Get Used to Losing You”. All of these iconic tracks, plus hits from spin-off band General Public, can all be traced to one source- The English Beat. Along with their contemporaries The Specials, The Selecter, and Madness, the band became an overnight sensation in the late seventies and one of the most popular and influential bands of the British Two Tone Ska movement. Consisting of Dave Wakeling on vocals and guitar, Andy Cox on guitar, David Steele on bass, and Everett Morton on drums – with later additions Ranking Roger (toasting) and foundational First Wave Ska legend Saxa (saxophone)- the band crossed over fluidly between soul, reggae, pop and punk, and from these disparate pieces they created an infectious dance rhythm. Wakeling has continued to keep The Beat alive and strong, touring the world with an English Beat made up of an amazing all-star ska backing band playing all the hits of The Beat, General Public, and his new songs, as well.

So bring a friend and share the experience of a band that Rolling Stone called “wild and threatening, sexy and sharp” at The Grand on Monday July 9th at 7:30pm!

Tickets for the show are $29.00 General Admission. Please note that one dollar from each ticket sold will go to the Grand’s Restoration Fund.
