Blue Hill, Maine - Filmmakers Richard Searls and Stu Silverstein will show their 1976 film, Dead River Rough Cut at the Blue Hill Public Library on Tuesday, July 10th at 7:00. Enter the world of Bob Wagg and Walter Lane, two Maine characters who live by their own ways in a tarpaper shack deep in the Maine Woods. Theirs isn't the Maine that is featured in the pages of glossy magazines, but rather one where hardscrabble philosophy meets rural pragmatism, where middle class manners have little use and where life can change from the sublime to the ridiculous with the changing of the wind.
Shot over the course of four seasons and marketed as the most requested movie at the Maine State Prison, this movie is a rare unpolished gem. Bob and Walter’s toothless grins won’t likely find their way on to Maine Department of Tourism postcards anytime soon, but they will likely earn a place in your heart. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet the filmmakers and learn more about the making of a Maine classic. As one Amazon reviewer put it, “this movie isn’t for the squeamish or easily offended, but this is true back-country Maine!”
Copies of the DVD will be available for purchase. The event is free and everyone is welcome. For more information contact the Library at 374-5515.
