Boothbay Harbor Windjammer Day’s Parade Grand Marshals Hold Special Connections to the Event and the Community




Boothbay Harbor, Maine The Boothbay Harbor Windjammer Day’s festival is fast approaching and there will be no shortage of family fun including, the parade honoring the 50th annual celebration on Wednesday June 27th at 5 p.m. With five honorary Grand Marshals leading the way, each hold their own unique connection to the  festival and represent one Grand Marshal for each decade.

Estelle Appel best known for being active with the Fisherman’s Memorial Fund, the Lincoln Arts Festival and the Boothbay Civic Association enjoys the friendship and the camaraderie the event brings to the crowds.












Founder of Boothbay Railway village and Captain of the Schooner Sherman Zwicker, George McEvoy became involved in the festival during its early years. As a member of the board of directors of the Boothbay Region Chamber of Commerce for several years, McEvoy participated in the first parade, the spring Captain’s dinner and the antique boat parade.










Grand Marshal, Joan Rittall, Town Clerk of Boothbay for 23 years was the founding member of the Boothbay Civic Association. She ran the Boat House Country store, a gift shop at Rittal’s boat yard for years while raising her children. Her connection with Windjammer Days brings memories of the years when floats celebrated Rittal’s Boat Yard.











Retired Managing Editor of the Boothbay Register, Mary Brewer holds a close connection to the Windjammer Days as she remembers the days when large cargo carrying and fishing vessels graced the harbor throughout the year. She is the former Maine Press Association President and Journalist of the year. She and her husband Butch, a retired fisherman, live at Murray Hill in East Boothbay. Mary is a proud sponsor of Windjammer Days.









Tim Hodgdon, Majority Owner of Hodgdon Shipbuilding LLC/ Hodgdon Yachts Inc. as well as several other businesses enjoys the commemorative aspect the Windjammer Festival brings to the community. He appreciates seeing the Windjammers sail in the harbor and remembers the Victory Chimes sailing under sail only in Boothbay Harbor.

Remember not to miss the parade and these prominent members of the Boothbay Harbor region community Wednesday June 27th at 5 p.m.!

The 2012 Windjammer Days is scheduled to take place June 24-27, with the schooners appearing in Linekin Bay on the 26th and in the harbor on 27th.
