Bermudez, Brentz Deliver RBI Hits for Portland
Portland, Maine- The Binghamton Mets defeated the Portland Sea Dogs 9-2 Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 4,088 fans at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs and Mets split the four game series. The Sea Dogs fall to 3-8, while the Mets improve to 4-5 on the young season.
Greg Peavey tossed five shutout innings for the Mets holding the Sea Dogs to four hits. Peavey improved to 2-0 and has yet to allow an earned run in two starts this season.
Armando Rodriguez relived Peavey and was equally effective tossing three no-hit innings.
Portland starter Chris Balcom-Miller (1-1) lasted only 1.2 innings, surrendering five runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks, allowing the Binghamton Mets to jump out to a quick 5-0 lead.
Matt Den Dekker hit a solo home run to centerfield in the first. Jefry Marte and Josh Rodriguez each added RBI singles in the first as the Mets plated three runs.
The Mets added two more runs in the second. Balcom-Miller issued a bases loaded walk to Erik Campbell. Michael Lee relieved Balcom-Miller and walked Oswaldo Navarro forcing home another run.
The Mets out-hit the Sea Dogs 15-8, led by Sean Kazmar's three hits.
Travis Ozga delivered a two run blast into the U.S. Cellular Pavilion in the ninth off Portice to extend the Mets lead to 9-0.
The Sea Dogs rallied in the ninth scoring two runs off Erik Turgeon to prevent the shutout. Kolbrin Vitek led-off the inning with a single and scored on a Ronald Bermudez double. Bryce Brentz singled to score Bermudez.
Juan Carlos Linares singled in the fourth and has hit safely in all seven games he has appeared in this season.

The homestand will continue on Monday at 6:00 PM when the Sea Dogs welcome the New Britain Rock Cats (Twins) to town for a three game series. The Sea Dogs will send righty Chris Martin (0-2, 8.31) to the mound. The Rock Cats will counter with south paw Andrew Albers (0-0, 4.50).
