Legacy for London 2012 database

Members of the public who signed up to the London 2012 database will continue to be the first to find out about the latest sporting, volunteering and cultural events taking place across the UK.

Once the Paralympic Games have finished, LOCOG will continue to send the members of its email database content about sport, volunteering and culture from across the UK. This will be done in conjunction with the BOA, BPA, the National Governing Bodies and Sport England.

LOCOG has also announced today that it will start its search for a suitable third party to pass its spectator data onto, ensuring that the millions of people who receive email communication from London 2012 will still be able to hear about volunteering opportunities and upcoming sporting and cultural events after LOCOG formally dissolves.

The process to find the permanent home for the database will begin in October 2012, when interested companies will be able to register their interest. LOCOG will not benefit financially. This transfer of information, which will be a first for an Organising Committee, has been approved by the IOC and the IPC. LOCOG will continue to work with the Information Commissioner to ensure best practice in data protection regulations.

Seb Coe, LOCOG chair said: "The British people have taken the Olympic and Paralympic Games to their hearts. Young people want to try new sports; people are telling us they want to volunteer and help their local community. I'm delighted that we'll be able to continue to keep the public in the loop. This process is all about looking for the right partner to help us build the strongest possible sporting, volunteering and cultural legacy for the long term."
