FILM MAKER AND AWARD-WINNING DOCUMENTARY FAMBUL TOK COME TO DAMARISCOTTA

Damariscotta, Maine - Lincoln Theater is pleased to host two special screenings and discussions of the new, award-winning documentary Fambul Tok at 2 PM and 7 PM on Wednesday September 19.  Both screenings will also include time with the film’s Executive Producer, Libby Hoffman, who serves as President of Catalyst for Peace, the US program partner for Fambul Tok.

In Fambul Tok, victims and perpetrators of Sierra Leone’s brutal civil war come together for the first time since the conflict to commit an act that is as astonishing as it is simple: they forgive one another.

Reviving an ancient, traditional practice called fambul tok (“family talk”), the Sierra Leonean communities portrayed in Fambul Tok build sustainable peace at the grass-roots level, succeeding where international efforts have failed. Fambul Tok’s characters reveal the depths of a culture that believes that true justice lies in redemption and healing—and that forgiveness is the surest path to restoring a nation’s dignity.

The screenings at Lincoln Theater, located at 2 Theater Streeet in downtown Damariscotta,  are part of Fambul Tok’s international, grassroots screening and awareness campaign. Providing a unique and catalyzing forum for discussion and action, Fambul Tok screenings rally schools, nonprofits, and community organizations worldwide to share Sierra Leone’s triumphs in restorative justice—and to ignite local peace building and reconciliation efforts in settings as far-reaching as classrooms, prisons and local governments.

Lincoln Theater joins the team behind Fambul Tok in celebrating the insight and promise of a new model for conflict resolution, and in urging communities worldwide to join a global conversation about the universal power of forgiveness.

Additional information on the screenings can be found on the theater’s website at www.atthelincoln.org.  Information on Fambul Tok can be found at http://www.fambultok.com.
