Sprout and Microgreen Workshop

Camden/Rockport, Maine - Small greens, big nutrition! Toni Sanchez of Searsmont will lead a workshop on the health benefits of vegetable sprouts and microgreens at Merryspring Nature Center on Saturday, June 23rd at 10 a.m.

While sprouting, vegetables provide more energy and nutrients than at any other time in their lifecycle. Sprouting food is a cost-effective and easy way to take advantage of this nutritional treasure trove all year long.  Sanchez will guide participants through the benefits of eating sprouts and microgreens, which can aid in healing, raise the body’s metabolism, and may jumpstart the weight-loss process. Sanchez will also demonstrate how to grow food year-round, from getting started to maintenance to how to store fresh sprouts and greens. Guests will be able to taste-test some samples and participants will take home their very own 4 inch pot of sprouts and microgreens.

Sanchez has been growing and eating sprouts and microgreens for almost 40 years and attributes their nutrition to overcoming health problems. She has taught about growing these economical, delicious, and supremely healthy foods for the past five years at churches, garden centers, natural food stores, and holistic health centers in different areas of the country. She also holds private consultations to help others get started sprouting their own food.

The cost of this workshop is $5 for Merryspring members and $10 for non-members. Pre-registration is required for this event and space is limited to 20 people. Attendees should sign up by Thursday, June 21st by calling 236-2239 or e-mailing info@merryspring.org.

Merryspring is a member-supported, non-profit nature education center and park located at the end of Conway Road just of Rt. 1 by the Hannaford shopping plaza in Camden. For more information, call Merryspring at 236-2239 or visit the website at www.merryspring.org
